Nature

Uňatín lies in a flat valley of the Čekovský stream, a tributary of the Krupinica. The valley of the Krupinica River contains oak-hornbeam forests and springs. Legally protected spring snowflakes also grow there. The landscape is therefore not defined by a single attraction, but by the interplay of waterways, floodplain areas and wooded sections.

Trails

The Krupina–Uňatín–Čabraď educational trail is self-guided, can be walked in both directions and is usable year-round as a footpath; for the most part, it is also suitable for bicycles. From Uňatín, it leads via Horný Badín and Čabradský Vrbovok to Čabraď Castle. Alternative access points are available from Krupina and Bzovík. They meet in Uňatín, where the second section of the educational trail begins.

Another educational trail leads from Uňatín to the “Uňatínsky mlyn” mill. It runs through the meandering valley of the Krupinica to the mill and then returns to Uňatín along a circular route. The Krupina–Uňatín–Čabraď educational trail is a connection with alternative access points, while the educational trail to the “Uňatínsky mlyn” mill is designed as a circular route with four stations.

Culture

The first mill in Uňatín was built on the Krupinica River and belonged to the Premonstratensian monastery in Bzovík. The “Uňatínsky mlyn” mill is located in the Krupinica floodplain and has a historic bread oven in its courtyard. Another place with preserved traces of former everyday life is the restored folk house. It is open to the public and preserves an original clay oven, an earthen floor, historic furnishings, an old well and a bread oven.

Above Uňatín stands the Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King, dating from 1957. The local craft history includes wooden implements and baskets made in the first half of the 20th century. During the same period, embroidery, Hontian embroidery, bobbin lace and decorated Easter eggs were also produced in Uňatín.

Community

Even today, several annually recurring traditions and gatherings show how much village life is shaped by the community. Vatra is a long-standing annual community gathering in Uňatín. Earth Day has a tradition of more than 20 years here, takes place annually and includes a joint litter-collection campaign in the area around the village. Uňatín has also revived the traditional custom of raising a maypole: a maypole is erected together in the village centre.
