Holiday apartment in Lišov – masks, winegrowing and history

Lišov combines cultural collections with unusual architectural forms, winegrowing and a cycling route through the landscape. Between masks from around the world, cellars carved into volcanic tuff and historic buildings, the town reveals itself through different, clearly identifiable facets.

Culture

The Galéria masiek displays more than 400 masks from around the world. Its collection includes African, Asian, modern European, American and local masks. In Lišov, very different cultural traditions and forms of design are therefore presented side by side, from African and Asian works to modern European, American and local masks.

The Lišovská izba is a small ethnographic museum. Visitors can see and try out traditional crafts and handiwork there. Lišov’s Regional Information Point is located in a renovated house dating from 1887 and serves as an information centre and café.

The Stodola Fera Liptáka is located in a house with preserved traditional architecture, where exhibitions are held. The Stodola can be visited by prior arrangement.

Traditional building methods

The Keltské obydlie is made of wood. Its walls are woven from hazel rods and plastered with clay; the building was constructed without a single nail. It was created during a stay in Lišov by exchange students from England, Romania and Germany. The Keltské obydlie can be visited as an example of traditional skills and working with natural materials.

History

The Protestant church in Lišov is believed to have been built in 1590. The present organ dates from 1922. Thus, the church building brings together a presumed construction date and an instrument dated considerably later.

Other distinctive historic architectural forms include the stone dwellings. They comprise small rooms and large halls carved into cavities and caves in sandstone and tuff. The stone dwellings probably date from the period of the Turkish incursions; they served as refuges for the inhabitants.

Winegrowing

The Vínne chyžky in Lišov comprise around 300 winegrowers’ cottages and hand-carved cellars cut directly into volcanic tuff. The approximate number of cottages is part of this ensemble, as is the cellars’ distinctive construction method.

Koštovka is a competition for the best Lišov wine, held every spring since 1994. The event therefore takes place annually in spring, while the competition itself is dedicated to the best wine from Lišov.

Nature

The 24 km Lišovská cycling route leads from Dudince to the Tesárska roklina, through Lišov and back to Dudince. Along the Lišovská cycling route, the meanders of the Lišovský potok can be seen. The route thus connects Dudince, the Tesárska roklina and Lišov in a circular route.

In the lower part of Lišov lies Hbôl - perisko, a mildly mineralised spring that does not freeze in winter.
