Holiday apartment in Drienovo: Geotope, Church and History

Drienovo combines geological features with wooded valleys and a multifaceted local history. In the southwestern part of the Krupinská výšina, distinctive landscape formations meet historical evidence ranging from the former name of the village to the Protestant church and notable local figures.

Landscape

Drienovo is located in the southwestern part of the Krupinská výšina. The landscape of this upland consists of tuffaceous, mostly coarse-grained andesitic deposits. Its geological features include the Drieňovo – Gašparov výšok geotope. It consists of chaotic breccias from a pyroclastic flow of the Čelovce pyroclastic volcano.

The terrain around the village is also clearly defined: the Drienovo ridge descends steeply into the deep valley of the Litava. The steep slopes of the valleys near Drienovo are predominantly covered with oak forest. Thus, geological deposits, a distinctive ridge, deep valleys and extensive oak stands coexist in the village and its immediate surroundings.

History

The history of Drienovo can be traced back to the Middle Ages through its name. The village is documented as Drino since 1256 and was renamed Drienovo in 1773. Historical livelihoods in Drienovo included agriculture and viticulture. These two areas are therefore among the traditional economic activities associated with the village.

Ján Rotarides is also a specific historical figure associated with Drienovo. He worked as a teacher in Drienovo from 1856 to 1896 and is buried in the local cemetery. His grave is maintained by the residents of Drienovo. During the Slovak National Uprising, a partisan group under Major MIRONOV was also stationed in a building in Drienovo.

Church

A central historic building is the Protestant church of Drienovo. It was built in 1906–1907 in the Historicist style on the site of a church dating from 1773. The inventory of the Protestant church in Drienovo includes a Baroque chalice from 1722. The church is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.

Hiking

Drienovo also lies on a hiking route that runs from Dudince via Plášťovce, Litava and Senohrad. Its route continues through Hlašťovina and Drienovo to Malá Tabla. Within this route, Drienovo lies between Hlašťovina and Malá Tabla.
