Holiday apartment in Venice: lagoon, islands and culture

Venice and its lagoon combine a historic city with its lagoon landscape in the Veneto region. According to the UNESCO description, the historic settlement landscape extends from Torcello in the north to Chioggia in the south. The Lagoon of Venice forms a coherent cultural and natural landscape as a semi-lacustrine habitat: mudflats, islands, fishing villages and historic buildings are part of this multifaceted structure.

Nature

On Pellestrina, Ca' Roman preserves one of the best-preserved dune landscapes in the northern Adriatic. The protected coastal area on the Lido di Venezia is recognised at national level because of the importance of its breeding grounds for Kentish plovers and little terns. Pellestrina itself preserves the character of a fishing island; in San Pietro in Volta, there is also a domestic tradition of lace-making.

Connections

Ca' Roman is served by ACTV route 11 and can be reached in about twelve minutes from the public water transport landing stage. ACTV route 12 connects Venice with Murano, Mazzorbo, Torcello, Burano, Treporti and Punta Sabbioni.

Culture

On Murano, the Museo del Vetro is dedicated to the island's glassmaking history; it was founded in 1861. The Museo del Merletto in Burano documents five centuries of Venetian lace art through around two hundred original lace works. On Torcello, the Museo di Torcello displays archaeological finds and medieval artworks that tell the story of Venice's origins.

M9 tells the story of the 20th century through everyday life and major social, economic, environmental and cultural changes. For its museum narrative, M9 uses modern technologies and immersive installations.

In the surrounding area are the Scuola di San Rocco museum, the Palazzo Bianca Capello palace, the Palazzo Tiepolo palace, the Palazzo Grassi museum, as well as the islands of Tronchetto, San Secondo, San Giorgio in Alga and Vignole.

Regional destinations

The Caorle Lagoon also has several distinctive facets. Boat trips on the motor vessel “Arcobaleno” and the bragozzo “La Serenissima” lead through its canals. The lagoon can be explored by bicycle and is suitable for birdwatching. The Casoni of Caorle include traditional fishermen's houses made of reeds and wood. Typical products and ingredients of Caorle's cuisine include moscardino, clams and Canestrello bianco.

Lido di Jesolo has fifteen kilometres of equipped beaches.
