Cona combines sacred architectural heritage, historic villas, an agricultural landscape shaped by land reclamation, and regional food products. If you are planning a holiday apartment in Cona, you will find several clearly distinguishable themes for your holiday interests: churches, bridges, fields and local produce shape the landscape.

The Chiesa della Santissima Trinità di Cantarana was built in 1705 and elevated to a parish church on 30 July 1718. The Parrocchia di Santa Maria della Neve in Foresto dates from the second half of the 17th century and belongs to the architectural heritage of the Diocese of Chioggia. The Chiesa arcipretale di Cona was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century.

Villa Tassi Trieste consists of two adjoining complexes. Despite being built at different times, both have the same floor plan and a north–south orientation. The older farmhouse probably dates from the 17th century and has an arcaded portico on square pillars on the ground floor. The later complex dates from the second half of the 19th century and was built as part of large-scale local land reclamation works.

The Villa Padronale di Monsole is also known as Meticke and is an agricultural and representative residence with a broad, deep portico. The Oratorio di Santa Maria della Neve in Conetta dates back to a chapel that existed in the 10th century. Villa Deganello is a manor house probably dating from the 16th century, located in the centre of Cona. It is currently vacant and in very poor condition.

Agricultural landscape and regional cuisine

Cona’s present-day agricultural landscape is the result of land reclamation works carried out over the past century. In Corte Civrana, 365 hectares encompass diverse agricultural habitats: arable land, vegetable cultivation, woody crops, vineyards, hedges, buffer strips, lowland woodland and ponds. For families who enjoy alternating between landscape, culture and regional cuisine, this combination makes different holiday focuses possible.

Cona’s important agricultural products include pears, walnuts, watermelons, red Radicchio di Chioggia and Zuccamarina di Chioggia. A dairy in Pegolotte di Cona produces Caciotta from a mixture of sheep’s milk and other milk, as well as Ricotta; both products are among the typical agricultural and food products of the Province of Venice. At agritourism establishments in the Cona area, you can buy organic products directly and taste typical local dishes.

Orientation between Cona and Cavarzere

For orientation, Cona Veneta railway station is relevant: it is located on the Venice–Adria railway line. The Ponte dei Pesi is situated between Cavarzere and Cona, is 112 metres long and was built in 1922. Its central balancing beams are visible in the surrounding landscape. The bridge is currently in poor condition due to insufficient maintenance and exposure to the weather.

If you choose a holiday apartment in Cona, you can set your own priorities: historic buildings, the agricultural landscape, regional products or the Venice–Adria railway line. Which accommodation suits your plans depends on your preferred holiday themes.
