Holiday apartment in Mirano – Art, Waterways and Markets

Mirano combines art history, water-shaped townscapes, parks, market dates and two cycling routes in the MIBI programme.

Art and History in Mirano

The Duomo di San Michele Arcangelo dates from the 16th century and was remodelled in 1684. Inside, it houses Giambattista Tiepolo’s altarpiece “Miracolo di Sant'Antonio che riattacca il piede” and also preserves a ceiling fresco by Giovanni De Min entitled “Giudizio universale”.

Another aspect of the town’s history is shown by Molini di Sotto, a decommissioned industrial complex in Mirano’s historic centre, facing the boat basin in front of it. Until the 1960s, the facility operated as a grain mill and oil mill. The basin at Molini di Sotto was enlarged and excavated so that Burci boats could dock and manoeuvre. Its former use and relationship with the water give this place a clear industrial and canal-related character.

Parks, Canals and the Landscape Structure

The public parks of Villa Belvedere and Villa Morosini–XXV Aprile are located in Mirano’s historic centre, follow the course of the Muson River and together cover an area of five hectares. Villa Morosini, Monico detta XXV Aprile was built around the middle of the 17th century and completed in 1661. Its park covers more than three hectares and contains numerous statues with courtly themes from the 19th century.

The Taglio Canal is also part of Mirano’s water-related history: it was excavated in 1606 to connect the Muson with the Riviera del Brenta. The Roman Graticolato is also still clearly recognisable in the surrounding area. Straight roads intersect at right angles, while the agricultural land is regularly divided.

Markets and the Fiera di San Matteo

The Fiera di San Matteo has a long history: its first edition was authorised on 6 September 1477 by a decree of the Venetian Senate. The Fiera takes place on the third weekend of September and offers traditional entertainment with fairground rides and travelling shows, as well as a market selling various goods.

A farmers’ market takes place on Fridays in Piazza Martiri della Libertà. On Piazza Martiri, there is also a market for antiques and second-hand goods on the third Sunday of every month, except in July and August, organised by the municipality and Confcommercio del Miranese.

Cycling Options in the MIBI Programme

As part of the MIBI programme, Mirano offers the two cycling routes “TOUR DELLE FRAZIONI” and “TRA VILLLE E CAMPAGNA”. The historic sites, the river landscape and the agriculturally structured surroundings offer different ways to get to know Mirano at your own pace.
