You can sample Meissen wine in the city and in the surrounding Elbe wine villages along the river. From spring through autumn, the Meissen Wine Pavilion on the market square invites visitors to taste top Saxon wines every day. A culinary city tour offers a selection of tastings: the programme includes two savoury samples and one sweet sample, a small glass of Meissen wine and two samples of local beer. Meissen is also a convenient starting point for cycling and hiking tours: the Elbe Cycle Route runs right through the city.
