Culture

St. Wenceslas Church is described as one of Lommatzsch’s best-known sights. The three towers of Wenceslas Church make it one of the few churches of its kind in Saxony. The Lommatzsch Local History Museum is also part of the town’s history: It was founded in 1909 and opened to the public in 1911. Its collection is housed in the oldest building on the market square, at Markt 14.

Numerous deep cellars lie beneath the historic market square, some of which are still in use today. Lommatzsch is the center of the Lommatzscher Pflege, which is known within the Central Saxon Loess Hill Country as the “granary of Saxony”. The Lommatzscher Pflege is described as having fertile fields, orchards, and tree-lined avenues extending as far as the Elbe Valley.

Getting Around

The Lommatzscher Pflege can be explored year-round on numerous cycling and walking routes. The Lommatzscher Circular Route starts at the historic market square in Lommatzsch and returns to Lommatzsch. On its way to the Elbe, it passes through the typical landscape of the Lommatzscher Pflege, with wide fields and small villages. It partly follows the Elbe Cycle Route before returning via the Elbe-Mulde Trail.

The Orchard Blossom Trail is signposted continuously in both directions with waymarkers, distance information, and orientation boards. It offers the shortest cycling connection from Lommatzsch to the Elbe Cycle Route near Niederlommatzsch.

The estate in Neckanitz is described as a suitable destination or stopover for cycling and hiking tours. The Bürgerhaus in Neckanitz is associated with a museum of rural customs.
