Nature

The Hasenwiese nature reserve covers around 4.0 hectares within Guckheim’s municipal area. It protects habitats for rare and endangered wild plants and animal species. Around 95 percent of Guckheim’s developed area lies within the Secker Weiher–Wiesensee landscape protection area.

Culture

St. Johannes was built between 1961 and 1963 according to designs by architect Hans Busch. The long sides of the church feature decorative basalt masonry. The Diocese of Limburg identifies St. Johannes as an example of post-war modern church architecture.

The present-day Marienwald Chapel on the Rothenberg is a church building designed by Westerburg architect Rudolf Hack. It was built from 1948 onwards and consecrated on November 12, 1950.

Trails

The Wotansweg W3 passes through Guckheim on the Westerburg–Sainscheid–Guckheim–Weltersburg–Girkenroth–Berzhahn circular route. The trail is approximately 17.5 kilometers long, signposted in both directions with a yellow W3 on a black background, and includes forest and meadow paths as well as paved agricultural roads.

The Guckheim Historical Circular Trail starts at the community center and covers 5.6 kilometers, leading through the village and the surrounding landscape via around 13 stations. These include panoramic views, an orchard meadow, the Bruno Koch Forest and Bird Nature Trail, the Marien Chapel, information about basalt quarrying and local lignite mining, the Elbbach River and a mill.

Regional Trails

The Backesdörfer Tour reaches Guckheim as part of a regional circular route. It connects villages that have revived the tradition of baking bread together and is linked to a cycling and hiking trail along the former railway line towards Westerburg.
