In Korb, hiking trails and local history come together in a distinctive way. A section of the Kölner Weg runs along the Wäschbach at the entrance to Korb; historic buildings and traces of former industries add to the picture of the village. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you might ask whether you want your days to focus mainly on trails and views or also on architectural and local history.

Hiking Trails with Different Highlights

A section of the Kölner Weg begins at Unnau-Korb station, runs along the Wäschbach at the entrance to Korb and continues into the High Westerwald. It is considered a short, easy hike with numerous viewpoints and is also suitable for cyclists. The WesterwaldSteig follows meadow paths through the Wäschbach valley to Unnau-Korb; along the way, the view extends to Monsberg. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out.

The Limburg–Westerburg–Hachenburg–Au (Sieg) rail connection is listed for Unnau-Korb together with Nistertal-Bad Marienberg and Hachenburg. If you plan to include the train in your journey, check the current timetable in advance.

Half-Timbered Buildings and Architectural History

On Hachenburger Straße in Unnau-Korb, the historic monument zone comprises a group of cross-hall houses dating from the 19th century. With the exception of number 16, they have gabled fronts and half-timbered construction, and some are clad. Their shared architectural form and partial cladding give the group a distinctive architectural character. At Wiesenweg 3 stands a former school: a single-storey, slate-clad half-timbered building dating from 1878. The picture is completed by a station reception building with a goods shed from around 1885. The architectural history thus brings together residential buildings, a former school and a building from the railway area.

Traces of Former Industries

Place names and crafts also tell stories of the past. The name Kalkofenseifen derives from a lime kiln mentioned near Korb in 1697. Below Korb, an iron hammer mill with a wire-drawing works and nail forge operated in 1725. The name preserves a trace of lime burning; the hammer mill represents ironworking through two specifically named trades. This history complements the architectural forms with a glimpse of former activities in the area.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When looking for a holiday apartment in Korb, how you want to spend each day can be a useful guide. If short hikes described as easy and their viewpoints are your priority, the Kölner-Weg section may suit your interests. If you are looking for meadow paths, a valley and views of Monsberg, the WesterwaldSteig offers a different focus. Both routes include Unnau-Korb, but differ in the landscape and trail features described. Historic buildings and traces of the lime kiln and hammer mill can also inform your choice if you are interested in local history as well as hiking. This way, you can plan your trip around what you want to discover in Korb.
