Culture

Stöffel Park documents more than 100 years of industrial history through basalt extraction and processing. The Stöffel contains an unusually complete ensemble of historic buildings from the basalt-processing industry. In addition, the Stöffel is described as one of the most significant Tertiary fossil deposits in the world. The Great Bridge, also known as Erbacher Bridge, was built during the construction of the railway to Marienberg and Rennerod between 1907 and 1911 and was regarded as a technical achievement of its time.

Nature

The “Nistertal” landscape conservation area encompasses parts of the valley of the Große Nister between Hachenburg and Weidacker and covers approximately 5,200 hectares. In the Nister Uplands lies a deeply incised, winding Nistertal with rock faces and ridges connected to the Kroppach Switzerland region. The Nister Uplands consist of an almost even mixture of forest and open land.

The WesterwaldSteig route from Nistertal to Bad Marienberg initially runs through beech forest along a former railway line. A variant of WesterwaldSteig Stage 6 running from station to station leads via Nistertal towards the Nistertal-Bad Marienberg station and is approximately 16 km long. A marked access path of approximately 1 km connects the Nistertal-Bad Marienberg station with the start of WesterwaldSteig Stage 7. WesterwaldSteig Stage 6 reaches the church in Nistertal via an approximately 1 km-long access path.
