Limbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Limbach offers more than 25 circular hiking trails, which together cover well over 300 kilometres and connect the WesterwaldSteig with other local trails. Those looking to rent a holiday apartment in Limbach can then continue their search for accommodation.
Hiking and Landscape
Limbach is part of the Kroppach Switzerland, which forms part of the Nistertal Landscape Conservation Area. Rivers, wooded paths and viewpoints characterise the routes described.
The “German Corner of the Westerwald” route starts at the Haus des Gastes in Limbach and crosses the Kleine Nister via the old Limbach stone arch bridge. It passes the Limbach Village Museum, offers a detour to the Hartenberg viewpoint with views across the Kroppach Switzerland, and returns to Limbach via the Lützelau Mill.
Stage 10 of the WesterwaldSteig leaves Limbach along the Kleine Nister in the direction of the Heunig Caves Trail and the Hohe Ley viewpoint.
The large Bachgeflüster circular route runs from Marienstatt via the Assberg slate quarry, Hohe Ley and Limbach to the Ehrenhain memorial grove near Atzelgift and the Edelstein mine.
Bus route 270 connects Hachenburg with Streithausen; from there, Limbach is about a 25-minute walk away. Free parking is available at the Haus des Gastes in Limbach.
Culture and History
The historic Assberg roofing slate quarry, also known as “Schiwakoul”, comprises an open-pit mine approximately 240 metres long and 70 metres wide. The Assberg quarry is freely accessible to visitors and hikers. Its underground facilities lie 20 metres below the earth’s surface and are accessible via more than three staircases.
The Assberg roofing slate quarry is located directly on the WesterwaldSteig, the Marien Hiking Trail and the Druidensteig.
The Limbach Village Museum is housed in “Miens Schauer”, a half-timbered barn dating from 1770. Across four floors, the village museum displays more than 2,000 exhibits on local history.
Stage 7 of the Druidensteig leads to Limbach; there, the village museum and the Assberg visitor mine are highlighted.
