Steinen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Steinen area is home to three ponds in the Westerwald lake district: Brinkenweiher, Postweiher and Hausweiher. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Steinen can then continue their search for accommodation.

Nature

The Westerwald lake district comprises seven lakes and ponds surrounded by forests, wooded areas, reed beds, sedge marshes and wet meadows. It is an important resting and breeding ground for birds. Four species of grebe breed at Dreifelder Weiher: great crested grebe, little grebe, black-necked grebe and red-necked grebe.

Getting Around

The “Romantic Lake District” adventure loop on the WesterwaldSteig trail leads to the Steinen-Dreifelden forest playground. This adventure playground on Seeburger Straße in Steinen has a free car park.

The Lake District Cycle Route (I) passes through Steinen and runs between Postweiher and Brinkenweiher. The route is classified as easy, measures 20.4 kilometres, is suitable for children and runs mostly along paved paths, without requiring any special skills.

Activities

The Steinen-Dreifelden forest playground offers climbing, crawling, balancing, sliding and swinging on various levels. There are shaded benches where parents and grandparents can rest. Barbecuing and lighting fires are prohibited because of the risk of forest fires.

In summer, Postweiher offers opportunities for swimming and pedal boating.

History

The historic Schönerler Treaty was concluded in Steinen in 1665.
