Patersberg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

From the Three Castles View in Patersberg, the view stretches across the Upper Middle Rhine Valley to St. Goar, St. Goarshausen, Katz Castle, Maus Castle, Rheinfels Castle, and the Loreley Rock.

Landscape

The Loreley Extra Tour, which passes through Patersberg, runs through the “Rhine slopes between Lahnstein and Kaub” FFH area, crosses the “Upper Middle Rhine Valley” Natura 2000 bird protection area, and the “Rhine slopes from Gutenfels Castle to the Loreley” nature reserve.

On the Loreley Extra Tour through Patersberg, deeply incised valleys contrast with almost level high plateaus. The route connects a riverside path with viewpoints high above the Rhine and includes some elevation gain.

Hiking Trails

Patersberg offers circular hiking trails and lies on the section of the Rheinsteig designated as a “royal stage,” with viewpoints across the surrounding landscape.

The Loreley Extra Tour passes through Patersberg, where hikers can join the route. From the cemetery in Patersberg, it follows the Forstbach Valley; along this section, signs point to Bornsmühle as the next waypoint.

The 14.3-kilometre tour covers St. Goarshausen, Patersberg, and Bornich. It begins at the Loreley Visitor Centre or at Sankt Goarshausen Market Square, is accessible by public transport, and has bus stops at St. Goarshausen Market Square and the Loreley Plateau.

Culture

The Evangelical Church of Patersberg was originally dedicated to Saint Pancras. Its Early Gothic tower has a Romanesque spatial character; its present form may have originated around 1200. It may have been a pilgrimage church in the Early Middle Ages.

Numerous half-timbered houses rebuilt after the 1584 fire are still preserved in Patersberg.

History

Patersberg lies on a prehistoric transport route that was probably used by Celtic groups. Near the Haushecker Forest, a section of this route was uncovered that had been reinforced as a Roman road for heavy traffic.

Patersberg was first mentioned in a document in 1061 in a property register of Bleidenstadt Abbey, although this register is considered to be forged.
