Oberneisen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Trips on rail bikes take place at Oberneisen Rail Bike Station on the Aartal Railway route all year round and by prior arrangement. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Oberneisen can then continue searching for accommodation.

Cycling

The Aartal Cycle Path, which is connected to Oberneisen, is approximately 46 kilometres long. The section between Hahnstätten and Diez is about 11 kilometres long and runs away from roads. The cycle path is located near Oberneisen Castle Ruin and follows a valley set in the gently rolling Hintertaunus.

Culture

The round church in Oberneisen was built by Johann Schrumpf from 1816 to 1819 and incorporates a Romanesque tower. The Neoclassical central building has a decagonal exterior, a wooden dome and an altar arranged in the centre of the interior.

The surviving outer wall of Oberneisen Castle Ruin extends across four storeys and over 20 metres. The ruin stands on a rocky outcrop in the town centre and is freely accessible all year round.

The privately run Aartal Museum displays animal and plant fossils from several geological eras across two floors. The centrepiece of the tour on the history of the Earth is a life-size cast of an Allosaurus skull. The museum is housed in a former farmstead in the Aartal, has been open to the public since 2011 and can be visited by prior appointment.

History

The former Aartal Railway station at Bahnhofstraße 7 is a late Neoclassical reception building dating from 1869/70. The former vicarage at Hauptstraße 3 is a half-timbered building from the 17th century, standing on a high basement plinth. Oberneisen was already recorded as Nasongae in 790.
