Culture
Historical traces include the Jewish House on Burgweg. It was first mentioned in 1443 and is integrated into the masonry of Balduinstein’s medieval fortifications.
The Gate Tower was built around 1430 as part of the fortifications and served as a watchtower. Its floor plan is octagonal, and the tower is 17 metres high. Below Schaumburg Castle, Archbishop Balduin of Trier had a fortification built in 1319. Schaumburg Castle itself is a three-winged castle on a mountain summit.
The restored Balduinstein ruins also preserve historical details: they contain a stone latrine and surviving wall paintings that have been sealed to protect them from further damage. The QR tour “Digital durchs Dorf” offers an interactive way to explore the history and sights. It takes adults and children through Balduinstein at seven stations.
Nature
The Küppeltour is a circular hiking trail in and around Balduinstein that can be walked in its entirety or in sections. Shorter paths for walks and leisurely strolls also run along the Lahn in Balduinstein.
On the Lahn, canoes, kayaks, SUP boards and pedal boats can be rented from an external provider in Balduinstein. Restaurants and ice cream sales in summer are available at the railway station and at the canoe rental facility.
Getting Around
The Lahn Cycle Route and the German Unity Cycle Route pass through the town. A free charging station for e-bike batteries and mobile phones is available in the town centre.
There is a dedicated car park for Balduinstein Castle above the Torweg. Balduinstein is served by the Limburg–Koblenz railway line. According to the municipality, trains run approximately hourly and offer connections to long-distance services in Limburg or Koblenz.
