Routes

The section of the Nims Cycle Route between Schönecken and Lasel extends the route by around six kilometers of cycle path. It was completed and officially opened in September 2022. The Nims Cycle Route as a whole is 64.4 kilometers long, moderately difficult, and leads from Weinsheim near Prüm to the Irreler Mühle. Its northern section runs from Weinsheim near Prüm through the Schönecker Schweiz to Bitburg, with steeper climbs and descents.

On Route 5 of the Willibrordus Trail, the route continues via Nimsreuland, the Heisdorfer Bach and Lascheid. Near Meyersruh in the Schönecker Schweiz, Route 5 passes a rest-area junction with rock formations and a pilgrim memorial. From Nimsreuland, the route follows a cycle path through the Nims valley.

Culture

A shaft cross dating from 1696 stands on the main road in Nimsreuland. At Schweißtal 1, there is a substantial transversely divided farmhouse dating from 1804, with an extension added in the 19th century. Another agricultural building at Schweißtal 2 dates from the 19th century.

North of Schweißtal 1, on the road to Schönecken, there is a wayside crucifix shrine from 1786 with a relief figure of Saint Catherine. Southeast of the wayside chapel, there is a wayside cross with a relief figure of Saint Matthias; it dates from 1758.

The Winkelhof estate at Hauptstraße 2 is a historic building directly beside the Nims. It dates mainly from the mid-19th century, but preserves older elements, including a former forge and largely historic paving.
