Buchet: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Bach Trail is a circular route in the NaturWanderPark delux that connects Halenfeld and Bleialf. Buchet is located near the Belgian border in the Schneifel; parts of the Schneifel ridge lie within the municipal area. Buchet is part of the North Eifel Nature Park and the German-Belgian Nature Park, and the Alfbach also flows through the village.

Hiking

Buchet has several well-developed hiking trails, including sections connected with the Matthias Trail – Meuse-Rhine Trail and the Way of St. James. Local hiking trails lead towards Schwarzer Mann on the Schneifel ridge; the Hemingway Trail is also highlighted among the local hiking options.

The 14-kilometre Bach Trail starts and ends at the sports field in Bleialf. The route follows the Alfbach, Donsbach, Ihrenbach and Dürenbach streams and runs along the Belgian border in sections. The Bach Trail crosses two elevations and offers views across the Ardennes towards the High Fens. It is described as a premium trail bearing the German Hiking Seal, as well as a circular route and a family-friendly trail.

Culture and History

House Frames housed the command staff of the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 4th U.S. Infantry Division in the second half of September 1944. Ernest Hemingway repeatedly visited House Frames as a war correspondent. A memorial plaque at House Frames commemorates this connection with Hemingway.

St. Barbara's Chapel is connected with Buchet's mining history; Saint Barbara was chosen as the patron saint of miners. Its architecture is distinguished by the fact that both the floor plan and the roof shape are designed like a beech leaf.

Nature and Views

The Dreiländerblick viewpoint near Buchet offers long-distance views from Bleialf and the Alfbach Valley across the Islek and the Ösling and beyond as far as the other side of the Our Valley. On clear days, visibility can extend to the High Fens in Belgium. Panoramic panels at Dreiländerblick identify visible sights, settlements and landscape features; benches provide places to linger.

Transport

The districts of Buchet are connected to the regional road network via K104 and K105. Buchet lies between two junctions of the A60.
