Oberlascheid: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Oberlascheid is located in the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park, directly on the Belgian border and at an elevation of around 530 meters above sea level. Several hiking trails lead through the village, including the Bach Path. The municipality has three shelters and five benches for hikers.

Nature

The Bach Path follows the Alfbach, Donsbach, Ihrenbach and Dürenbach streams and at times runs along the Belgian border. It is an easy, 14.0-kilometer circular route between Halenfeld and Bleialf. Oberlascheid and Radscheid are located along Kreisstraße 104.

Culture

The Chapel of Saint Stephen in Oberlascheid is a legally protected cultural monument. Its nave and choir acquired their present form around 1848, probably incorporating older parts. A figure of Saint Gangolf is located at the entrance, with a depiction of the Gnadenstuhl above the entrance.

The veneration of Saint Arnulfus once attracted pilgrims to Oberlascheid and contributed to the nickname “Schwingslascheid.” Burgbrennen is one of the local traditions and involves a large fire on the first Sunday after Carnival. The former school with teachers’ residence at Ortsstraße 14 dates from 1887 and is now a residential building.

History

Oberlascheid was first documented in a deed in 1187 as “langescheit.” Radscheid is also historically documented: the village was first documented in 1287 as “Rottescheid.”
