Hattgenstein: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hattgenstein is situated on a south-easterly facing slope and offers open views across the Hunsrück and the Palatinate Forest. A prominent viewpoint is the 27-metre-high Hattgenstein observation tower, reached by climbing 110 steps. From there, the view extends from the Erbeskopf to Saarland, across forests, species-rich meadows, river and stream valleys, and distinctive rock formations. Nature

The landscape around the Hattgenstein observation tower is shaped by Devonian quartzite ridges into which streams have carved gentle and steep valleys. A striking geological feature is the Hattgenstein Rock, a distinctive hard-rock formation made of quartzite of Devonian origin. Long-term weathering left it behind as a prominent rock formation. Hattgenstein Rock is located on the outskirts of Hattgenstein next to the forester’s house.

Hiking

The premium hiking trail Around the Enchanted Forest begins at the Sauerbrunnen spring complex. The Hattgenstein observation tower is one of the highlights of this route. The Around the Enchanted Forest route is characterised as being particularly well served by public transport.

Culture and History

The Bell House in Hattgenstein was built in 1762 and later served as a school until 1853. Next to the Bell House stands a restored ensemble of former agricultural buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The former barns in the restored ensemble are used for festivals and pottery courses.

The restored village buildings preserve the characteristic Hunsrück style of long farmhouses without roof overhangs.
