The Schauren church was built in 1767 according to the plans of local carpenter Johann Nicolaus Wenz. Its roof surfaces are covered with locally quarried slate. Inside, there is a Stumm organ dating from 1780 in a Rococo case. The German Foundation for Monument Protection allocated €10,000 for the restoration of the ceiling paintings in the two western bays above the organ in Schauren's village church. The large bell of Schauren church was cast in 1480. The church is described as the only completely original example among the characteristic churches of the Hunsrück.

Several prehistoric graves discovered in the Schauren area indicate settlement origins in the early Celtic Iron Age. Schauren is also associated with a tradition of gemstone processing; only a few of the formerly numerous gemstone businesses have survived the changes in the craft. Visitors are welcome to visit a gemstone workshop and exhibition rooms in Schauren.

The local infrastructure includes two inns and a campsite offering accommodation and dining.

Hiking

Schauren is a designated stop on the STUMM Organ Trail, a hiking experience that connects woodland and meadow landscapes with historic Stumm organs. An audio library makes it possible to listen to the organs even when the churches are closed.

The Schauren Local Heritage and Cultural Association offers the village walk “Around Schauren,” with a convivial get-together on 1 May. The Stumm Ironworks Trail is described as a 15.5-kilometre premium hiking route in the Hunsrück. Access to this trail from Schauren is listed at Talstraße 2 and is approximately 500 metres from the trail.

The Stumm Ironworks Trail can be reached by public transport. The Birkenfelder Land Tourist Office provides an overview of bus and train connections to hiking trails.

Nature

The Stumm Ironworks Trail passes through the Upper Nahe FFH protected area. It connects views from the plateau with attractive wooded valleys and stream valleys.
