The Stadtweiher lake is free to use year-round and serves as an urban recreational area. Supervised swimming is possible there in summer. Stand-up paddling is also permitted; SUP boards can be rented from the local lifeguard service. The bathing area includes free parking, sunbathing lawns, a kiosk, and sanitary facilities. The playground, pump track, and fitness area at the Stadtweiher are accessible free of charge year-round. The nearby pump track has a course for bicycles, scooters, inline skates, and skateboards.

Nature

The “Im Gärtel” forest educational trail is open year-round. This 2-kilometre circular route leads through the municipal forest and passes the Gärtel nature conservation site and the forest house. The Gärtel nature conservation site is located along the approximately 2-kilometre-long forest educational trail and is suitable for families. Information boards, interactive learning stations, and a nest-box exhibition provide information about forest animals, bees, and insects. The forest house can be accessed as part of guided hikes or booked through the town of Baumholder.

Culture

The Goldener Engel Regional Museum presents regional history, the creation of the Baumholder military training area, and the effects of the more than 60-year US presence on Baumholder and the surrounding communities. It also shows how everyday life in Baumholder changed in the 1950s and 1960s using texts, photographs, everyday objects, music, press articles, and films.

Baumholder’s historical sights include the Old Town Hall dating from 1840, a Baroque Protestant church, a neo-Gothic Catholic church, the “Thick Tower” and the “Corpse Gate” associated with the town fortifications, as well as the partially restored Wäschbach washbasin.

The Avenue of the Disappeared Homeland can be reached via the Bärenbachpfad Dream Loop and presents the villages that had to make way for the military training area in the 1930s. The Historic Bier Smithy can be visited on request and is part of the guided tours through Baumholder. The free-standing smithy building dates from 1840 and has complete equipment of economic and technological historical interest.

Golf

On the outskirts of Baumholder, on the Faulenberghöhe, lies the 35-hectare course of the Rolling Hills Golfclub Baumholder e.V. From there, views extend across the Hunsrück and Westrich uplands.
