Oberscheidweiler is situated on a ridge between the Alf Valley and the Sammet Valley. Extensive forests and meadows surround the village. The Mühlenweg leads from Oberscheidweiler into the Alfbach Valley and to Oberscheidweiler Mill. It is marked with white signs bearing the inscription “Mühlenweg 11”.

The 2-Bäche Path runs through natural valleys and elevated areas in the valleys of the Sammet and Alfbach. The circular trail can be started in Oberscheidweiler and has viewpoints and rest areas along the route. Herons and deer are also mentioned along the trail. The Roteichenweg passes a bench with an unobstructed view of the Sammetbach Valley.

Hiking

The Roteichenweg is an approximately 6 km circular hiking trail in Oberscheidweiler. It starts and ends at St. Rochus Church in the village centre and is marked with small white signs bearing the inscription “Roteichenweg 13”. The Hasborn Sauerbrunnen is described as the highlight of the family hike. Visitors can drink directly at the walled Hasborn Sauerbrunnen using a water ladle. The water is brown and tastes acidic. The Roteichenweg also passes a naturally grown red oak hedge.

Free parking spaces are available at St. Rochus Church at Brunnenstraße 3. The locally marked Sammetblick trail is 4.5 km long and includes a short incline. The Sammetbach rises at Holzmaar near Gillenfeld and later flows into the Alf.

In linguistic terms, the local dialect is called “Owascheepa Platt” or Oberscheidweiler Platt. “Owascheepa Platt” is described as a language spoken only in Oberscheidweiler, with a pronunciation that differs from that in neighbouring municipalities.
