Nature
The Hasborn Oak Grove covers 7,000 square metres and contains trees that are up to 350 years old. It is located in the centre of Hasborn in a park-like setting among houses, the church, school and sports facilities. The oak grove provides a habitat for bats, squirrels and stag beetles. It is also described as the district’s last remaining grazing forest and as its oldest natural monument.
Between Hasborn and Oberscheidweiler lies the Hasborn Sauerbrunnen, an iron-rich spring. Its acidic taste comes from naturally occurring carbonic acid of volcanic origin. Schanzley is a distinctive rock above the valley in a wooded setting.
Hiking
The hiking trails through Hasborn include the 2-Bäche-Pfad and the Devonroute. The Pfarrsteig is approximately 17 kilometres long and connects Greimerath, Willwerscheid and Hasborn. Hasborn is in the immediate vicinity of the Greimerath Pfarrsteig. The area around Hasborn provides the setting for extensive tours through the Volcanic Eifel, with views across the region’s unspoilt landscape.
Culture
St. Rochus Chapel serves as a meeting place for art and culture and as a venue for exhibitions and concerts. The present-day St. Rochus Chapel was built in 1775 on the site of an earlier chapel in Hasborn. Hasborn Church has an octagonal floor plan, complemented by a decagonal chancel. Its three bells were cast by the Eifel bronze bell foundry Johannes Mark in Brockscheid.
The modern St. Rochus Church has a distinctive tent roof and was built in 1968 in the oak grove.
History
The historic livestock watering place is located next to the former Trier–Koblenz Roman road. The sunken lane known as Holg still recalls the course of this road through Hasborn.
