In Karl’s village square stands a colorful wayside crucifix shrine, which was made in the Wolff workshop in Wittlich and erected in 1703. The Baroque imagery depicts scenes from the Passion of Christ, winged angel heads, and Saint Catherine. It also features fruit motifs with grapes, apples, and foliage, as well as artistically crafted fruit garlands. The central shrine is described as a symbol of local popular piety.
The old chapel also preserves a historic detail: it contains a Rococo column altar from the late 17th century.
Nature and Hiking
Karl offers varied surroundings for hikes and nature-oriented visits. The Lieserpfad trail runs in the immediate vicinity of the village. It follows the natural course of the Lieser through deep forests, idyllic valleys, and impressive rocky landscapes.
A shorter 7.8 km hiking route leads from Karl to Himmerod. The twelfth stage of the Eifelsteig trail also runs from Manderscheid through the Lieser Valley to Himmerod. The route is 18.2 km long, takes approximately 5:30 hours, and is classified as moderately difficult.
High above the Lieser Valley lies the viewing platform on the Burgberg hill. From there, the expansive view stretches across the Eifel landscape. Directly beside the platform is a hut with wooden benches where hikers can take a break. The viewing platform is also located close to the Eifelsteig hiking trail.
