Culture and History

The Dirmstein heritage conservation area includes the historic streets of Marktstraße, Metzgergasse, Mitteltor, Salzgasse, Affenstein, Laumersheimer Straße, Herrengasse, Kirchgasse and Obertor, as well as two parks. The heritage conservation area is characterized above all by late Baroque buildings dating from the decades after the destruction of the Palatinate in 1689.

The heritage conservation area contains three almost completely preserved castle-like manor houses. A fortified farm complex had stood on the grounds of Sturmfeder Castle since the 13th century. It was the seat of the Lerch Knights of Dirmstein.

Dirmstein Episcopal Palace is a former estate near the Eckbach on the eastern edge of Dirmstein. The property is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside; a predecessor building has been documented since 1240. The former estate of Sturmfeder Castle is now Schlossplatz in the center of Dirmstein.

Geographical Location

Dirmstein lies within the triangle formed by Worms, Frankenthal and Grünstadt, on the border between the Palatinate and Rheinhessen.

Trails

The Eckbach Mill Hiking Trail is suitable for hikers and cyclists. It is 25.3 kilometers long and leads from the Eckbach source near the Hertlingshausen Nature Friends House to Dirmstein. Along the route there are around twelve information stations about places and sights.

The Eckbach Mill Hiking Trail runs through Dirmstein as well as Altleiningen, Neuleiningen-Tal, Kleinkarlbach, Kirchheim, Bissersheim, Großkarlbach and Laumersheim.

Leisure

No special preparation, fitness or equipment is required at Soccerpark Fußballgolf Dirmstein. You can get started after a brief introduction. The facility was Germany’s first soccer golf course and was founded in 2006. For beginners and families, there is an 18-hole fun course that takes around one and a half hours and covers approximately 1,200 meters. In addition, there is a premium course with 21 holes that takes around two hours and covers approximately 1,800 meters.
