The Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park is located in the districts of Dahme-Spreewald and Oder-Spree and encompasses more than 100 lakes. The number of lakes gives the landscape its distinctive connection to water; the holiday region also includes historical and cultural attractions. If you enjoy cycling, the district of Dahme-Spreewald has more than 1,000 kilometres of well-maintained, fully signposted cycle paths. Waterways and rural history in Schlepzig

In Schlepzig, you can discover two different sides of the village. The farm museum is housed in a completely preserved rural building ensemble dating from 1818. In the faithfully furnished farmhouse, you can learn about small-scale farming life. The buildings and furnishings provide a tangible historical setting for your visit: the focus is not only on a collection, but also on life in a farming household.

Boat trips from the harbour offer a different perspective on Schlepzig. The harbour is a starting point for punt or paddleboat trips on a three-kilometre circular route through the Spreewald village. You can get to know the place either through its rural history at the museum or from the water. The route is described as a circular route, making it a clearly defined option for a trip during your stay.

Technology and urban history

The Funkerberg Museum is located at the authentic site of Germany’s first radio broadcast. It was transmitted from Königs Wusterhausen on 22 December 1920, with a Christmas concert. A visit is therefore connected to a specific chapter in broadcasting history. You can also see a 1,000 hp Deutz diesel engine in action during regular demonstrations. In Mittenwalde, the Salzmarkt 5 Museum tells the city’s history of more than 700 years from a restored half-timbered house. If you’re interested in the town’s development, you can complement your museum visit with a guided city tour: visitors learn about the historic agricultural town, whose listed sights include St. Moritz Church and the local history museum. The tower of St. Moritz Church has viewing platforms at a height of about 50 metres. The climb involves around 200 steps—a practical consideration for anyone who wants to combine the view with the stair climb.

Königs Wusterhausen Palace also offers a historical perspective, although it can only be visited on a guided tour. Visitors learn about the life and royal living quarters of Frederick William I, as well as his era. In Bestensee, the fieldstone church is an example of a medieval village church; it was probably built towards the end of the 14th century. If you’d like to combine nature with observation, the Buchenhain nature trail leads to a seven-metre-high observation tower with views of the surrounding area.
