Swimming Spots and a Route Around the Lakes
Großer Tonteich, also known as Körbiskruger Tonsee, has a sandy beach. There is also a sunbathing lawn and an FKK naturist beach. The natural swimming area at Todnitzsee has a large sunbathing lawn and a wide beach. The two swimming spots therefore differ in their specifically named shoreline features. Pätzer Vordersee covers about 1.7 km² and is part of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. Bestensee and the district of Pätz lie on its shores. The water connections also help orient you: to the south, the lake is connected to Pätzer Hintersee, and to the north, to Todnitzsee. If you would like to experience the landscape beyond a single swimming spot, this is the starting point for a longer route.
The circular route around Pätzer Vordersee and Hintersee is 16.6 kilometres long and begins and ends at Bestensee station. In the area around Bestensee, the route passes through woods and meadows and runs through Liepegrund into the landscape of the Heideseen Nature Park. This makes it easy to plan a clear day out: a circular tour with a fixed start and finish, rather than a stay focused solely on swimming spots. A regional rail connection (RE) is listed at Bestensee station for getting to and from the route. Check the timetable before your trip.
Nature and Small Discoveries in LAUSL Park
Several themes come together in a compact area at LAUSL Park. The nature trail combines information boards with nesting aids and nature puzzles; there is also a barefoot path. An exhibition displays old agricultural equipment, and a playground sits beneath apple trees. This gives you several reasons to explore the park: nature topics, a look at agricultural equipment or a break at the playground.
From LAUSL Park, you can reach the station and Mühlen-Weinberg Bestensee in just a few minutes on foot. These short walks provide additional orientation if you would like to include the park, station or vineyard in your plans. Wooden sculptures by a chainsaw artist can also be seen in the Generationenwald and on the adjoining vineyard. The nature trail and woodcarvings offer different points of interest: information boards, nesting aids and puzzles in one place, wooden artworks in the other.
Village Church and Local History
The fieldstone church in Bestensee is an example of a medieval village church. Its south wall features murals that were probably created in the early 15th century. The church is also part of the “Open Church” initiative. Together, the building and murals form a cultural attraction of their own alongside the lakes and outdoor activities.
