Eichwalde between church architecture and Lake Zeuthen
Accommodation in Eichwalde
Eichwalde combines striking church architecture with cultural offerings, a natural bathing area on Lake Zeuthen and a tour towards Zeuthen. This means you can choose between a day of cultural experiences, time by the water and a walking tour during your trip. The S-Bahn connection towards Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen may also play a role when choosing Eichwalde as a holiday destination.

The church defines the townscape
The Evangelical Church of Eichwalde was built in 1908 to designs by Carl Zaar and Rudolf Vahl in the Neo-Gothic style. Its façade of red Märkisch brick, pointed-arch windows and light-coloured plaster visibly brings different materials and forms together. The tower is considered the highest point in the town, is visible from afar and defines Eichwalde’s silhouette.
Inside, the church has a three-aisled layout, with arcades and galleries structuring the space. The Parabrahm organ plays a special role: it was restored in 2002 and is played for visitors at concerts. It is considered the only surviving organ of its type anywhere in the world. Those interested in church architecture and organ music will find two distinct aspects of the building here: its Neo-Gothic design and an instrument with a special place in the historical record.
Culture at the Old Fire Station
Since opening in October 1996, the Old Fire Station in Eichwalde has developed into a cultural meeting place. Exhibitions, concerts and readings are held there. Its programme complements the church with a range of cultural events. If you do not want to spend your holiday entirely by the water or outdoors, you can take these cultural venues into account when planning your time in Eichwalde.
A tour towards Zeuthen
The Eichwalde–Zeuthen tour starts at Eichwalde station and initially follows August-Bebel-Allee, passing the church. After crossing the railway barrier, the route reaches the Hirtenfließ after about 100 metres. The distance of about 100 metres refers to this section after the railway barrier; it is not the length of the entire tour.
For orientation, it is important to note that this is not an official hiking trail and there are no markers along the route. If you plan to follow this route, bear in mind that it differs from a marked hiking trail. The route links the starting point at the station with August-Bebel-Allee, the church and the section by the Hirtenfließ. You can consider it a self-guided idea for an excursion towards Zeuthen without mistaking it for a designated hiking trail.
Water and relaxation
The natural bathing area in Eichwalde on Lake Zeuthen has a spacious sunbathing lawn of grass and sand where you can relax. This gives you two different surfaces to choose from while spending time by the water. Nearby, swimming, sailing, rowing and fishing on the lakes around the Kleine Umfahrt Zeuthen and the Rauchfangswerder peninsula are listed as possible activities. These options offer further ideas for enjoying the water and being active, while the bathing area itself provides a place to pause, with its sunbathing lawn.
Ice cream and transport links
Mario, Eichwalde’s ice-cream maker, offers a range of ice-cream creations every day from March to November. These include MilchReisEis (rice pudding ice cream), as well as cucumber and rose ice cream. For your travel planning, you can also take Eichwalde’s direct S-Bahn connection towards Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen into account. Which of the two directions suits you depends on the destinations you want to include in your stay.
A holiday apartment in Eichwalde may be a particularly suitable base if you want to combine the local attractions mentioned above with a connection towards Berlin or Königs Wusterhausen. When choosing, you can weigh up whether to focus more on the church and culture, the bathing area and activities by the water, or the tour towards Zeuthen. These options are available as separate ideas for your trip.
