Zeuthen by the Water and Among Greenery
Accommodation in Zeuthen
Lake Zeuthener See, a bathing-friendly stretch of the Dahme, borders Zeuthen and shapes the character of the town. Here, you can combine activities on the water with a tour through the lake landscape south of Berlin or a hike in Höllengrund. There is also a Chinese garden by the lake and a themed playground offering a very different kind of discovery. When choosing a holiday apartment in Zeuthen, these are a few things to consider: Would you like to focus your stay mainly on the water, explore on foot, or also plan some smaller discoveries?

Lake Zeuthener See: Water and Excursions
Lake Zeuthener See is used for water sports, tourism and fishing. The lake has good water quality and, as a bathing-friendly stretch of the Dahme, is a defining feature of the local landscape. If you would like to get to know Zeuthen on a trip on the water, consider taking a cruise on the passenger boat “MS Olympia”. It departs regularly from the landing stage at Rathausplatz for trips through the lake landscape south of Berlin.
The circular cruises last from 1.5 to 5 hours. Depending on the trip, they take you past Schmöckwitzer Werder, Großer Müggelsee or Seddinsee. The wide range of durations makes it easier to fit the excursion into your planned day: you can choose a shorter or longer trip, without this implying a particular destination or fixed route. The lake landscape itself is the focus of this experience. Water sports, fishing and boat trips also show the lake’s different uses.
On Foot in Höllengrund
There is also a specific starting point for a hike: the Höllengrund hiking trail begins at Zeuthen S-Bahn station. It is about 8.3 km long and takes approximately 2.5 hours. The route leads from Zeuthen via Hankelweg, following in Fontane’s footsteps, into Höllengrund. Take the approximate distance and duration into account when planning your day; these describe the extent of the route, not its level of difficulty.
In Höllengrund, the Ebbegraben stream winds through a nature reserve. The deeply incised valley and the stream give the hike a different character from a stay by the lake. The nature reserve provides a refuge for rare plants and animals. If you are interested in nature and landscapes, this gives you a specific reason not to focus your stay solely on water activities. The Höllengrund hiking trail connects the route from Zeuthen via Hankelweg with this distinctive landscape.
Garden Art and a Playful Discovery
The Chinese garden in Zeuthen is a relaxing spot by the lake. Its design combines the symbolism of Chinese garden art with contemporary elements. This offers a cultural highlight that differs from the active opportunities on the water and the longer hiking trail. If you would like to make room in your travel plans for quieter experiences too, you can make the garden a destination in its own right.
Another, much more playful idea is the “Alice in Wonderland” themed playground. Various play features draw on the Wonderland theme. For families, this is a vivid point of interest if they would like their stay to include a playful place as well as the lake and nature. The garden and playground offer two different discoveries in Zeuthen.
