History
Schönefeld developed into a settlement on the outskirts of the city, while its rural character changed over time. During Brandenburg's religious changes in the Reformation era, Schönefeld became Protestant. The Schönefeld church registers have documented births, baptisms, confirmations, marriages and burials since 1681.
The former Berlin-Schönefeld Airport was located in Schönefeld. Regular commercial passenger operations there have ceased; the airport was replaced by other airport infrastructure in the region.
