The traditional Cévenol architecture of Saint-Mélany consists predominantly of brown slate. The Terrasses de St-Mélany are extensive vineyard terraces overlooking the valley.

The church of Saint-Mélany stands on a promontory on the slope above the municipal cemetery. It has large roofs made of slate tiles, which strongly shape the municipality’s landscape.

Market and crafts

Since 1993, the Saint-Mélany market has been held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the village square, from Easter to All Saints’ Day. All exhibitors are local producers and craftspeople.

The market offers wine from the vineyards of Saint-Mélany, which are maintained and cultivated by the Arnaud family. Also available there are handmade, practical and decorative pottery items made by Fanny from Saint-Mélany.

Trails and culture

The Terrasses de St-Mélany can be accessed from the Sentier des Lauzes. Along the Sentier des Lauzes, you pass the Atelier-Refuge, a residence for artists. The trail is lined with works by Domingo Cisneros, Akio Suzuki, Christian Lapie, Gilles Clément, Ivo Provoost and Simona Denicolai.

The Source de l'Å’uf spring was recommended for its medicinal effects against diarrhoea and dysentery and was known as far away as Paris.

Le Rucher Sully Villard is an old Cévennes apiary preserved by a local beekeepers’ association. Visits to the honey-processing facility are possible by reservation.
