Saint-Montan: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Culture
In Saint-Montan, the Château de Saint-Montan stands on the hill above the village, which is full of character. During the main season, it offers self-guided or guided tours as well as performances by a theatre group. The original structure was a keep built in the 11th century solely for military purposes.
The local sacred architecture includes the Eglise de San Samonta, with a 10th-century chapel and a 12th-century Romanesque church, as well as the Eglise Saint-André de Mitroys. This Romanesque church was built on older foundations in the 12th century and served as a parish church until the 17th century.
The Expo-Musée in Saint-Montan offers free admission. On display are an annotated model of the castle, before-and-after photographs, as well as documentation and brochures. The Maison seigneuriale des comtés d’Urgell is furnished in a contemporary style and offers 30-minute tours for groups of four to eight people.
The ancient site of Alba-la-Romaine (Ardèche, France) – Théâtre gallo-romain is located in the surrounding area. The archaeological site Site archéologique d'Alba-la-Romaine and the church Cathédrale Saint-Vincent are also nearby. Further afield in the region is the historic site Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bon Secours.
