Borne: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The GR4 and GR7 trails run through Borne at the Col du Bez. The municipality of Borne includes the La Croix de Bauzon ski resort among its offerings for sports and outdoor tourism.

Hiking and nature

The Phare de Borne route is a moderately difficult 9.9-kilometre circular hike and takes around three hours. There is a car park for this route at the Col du Bez, opposite the Auberge. Gloria Friedman's contemporary artwork Le Phare stands at the Moure de l’Abéouradou on the GR7 and is located on the watershed between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. From the Phare de Borne, the viewing platform offers a 360-degree panoramic view.

Below the village, the renovated Tour de Borne clings to a rock above the river's gorges. Below this tower, the Gorges de la Borne offer natural pools, waterfalls and viewpoints. The tower cannot be visited because of the risk of falling rocks. Canyoning trips in the Gorges de la Borne are organised with a specialist guide; swimming in the river is not supervised.

The Taranis Arga interpretation trail leads through marshes, high-altitude heathlands and a forest associated with the Abbaye des Chambons. In the marshes along this trail, visitors can observe the carnivorous plant Drosera, also known as sundew. Borne also lists remarkable chestnut trees in the Parc naturel régional des Monts d’Ardèche. Climbing is available at the natural site of Les Chambons.

The GR72 runs through the municipality of Borne. A full-day canyoning tour on the Borne includes swimming, river trekking and several optional jumps of up to 12 metres.

Culture and history

The Clocher de Tourmente du Mas de Truc once helped travellers find their way during snowstorms. Borne's cultural heritage includes the Église Saint-Sauveur, a 19th-century church.

The heritage sites listed in Borne include the remains of the Cistercian abbey Abbaye cistercienne des Chambons and a former medieval keep dating from the 12th century. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Voyageurs is located at the Col du Bez.

Local produce

La Ferme aux Saveurs de Borne offers visits to the sheepfolds by reservation. It also offers crème de marrons, chestnut flour and natural chestnuts.
