Historical Heritage and Culture

Rungis’s historical heritage includes the Aqueduc Médicis and its three inspection chambers. It was added to the list of historic monuments in 1988 and fully classified as a historic monument in 1991. The Aqueduc Médicis begins at the Carré des eaux beneath the Stade Lucien Grelinger and runs for 13 km to Paris. Three of its inspection chambers are still visible in Rungis today; the SHAR (Société Historique et Archéologique de Rungis) occasionally offers guided tours.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was added to the list of historic monuments in 1999. Only the base of the bell tower remains from the former Notre-Dame church; it was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. The Chapelle du prieuré was created in 1958 by converting a former sheep shed belonging to the farm of Mr Thirouin.

The new Conservatoire de Rungis, inaugurated in 2024, is located mainly on the site of the former large farm of Rungis, which is regarded as a symbol of the commune’s agricultural history spanning thousands of years. The Grange Sainte-Geneviève and the Bergerie are regularly used for various events or activities.

Nature and Trails

The Plaine de Montjean has 2 km of walking and greenway paths. It also includes a restored wetland of approximately 2,000 m². Observation pontoons and viewing platforms have been installed on the Plaine de Montjean.

The Promenade du ru de Rungis runs between Colline Cacao and the Plaine de Montjean. The Ru de Rungis rises in Rungis and flows underground into the Bièvre near Fresnes.

The Théâtre de Rungis – Arc-en-ciel offers a high-quality professional artistic programme. Its auditorium seats a maximum of 400 people, including 10 spaces for people with reduced mobility, and hosts numerous performances and concerts.
