Esbly combines a remarkable history of bridge and water engineering with historic buildings in the town. The Pont sur la Marne is a 76-metre-long prestressed concrete bridge built by engineer Eugène Freyssinet from 1948 to 1949. It has been listed as a historic monument since 6 May 1965 and served as a prototype for four further bridges over the Marne.

Culture

The history of the town also includes the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, which was inaugurated on 24 June 1692. Its choir houses an altarpiece from 1695 depicting the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. The oldest building in the village is open for visits.

The historic site of Abbaye du Pont-aux-Dames is located in the immediate vicinity of Esbly. The wider regional area includes Château de Champs-sur-Marne, Château de Courquetaine and the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace. Disneyland Paris Parc is also located in the immediate vicinity of Esbly; Parc d'Expositions is situated in the wider regional area.

Waterways

Pont d’Esbly is one of the last almost original wooden bridges crossing the canal. It was built between 1845 and 1850. The Canal de Chalifert connects the two ends of a loop in the Marne and enables boat traffic between the Seine and eastern France.

Market

The Esbly market offers regional food products such as cured meats, meat, poultry, fish and cheese.

Route

The easy circular walk Itinéraire 13 passes through Esbly. It is 9.3 kilometres long.
