History
The Church of Saint Maurice in Chaussin is mentioned in a document dating from 1092. The Saint Nicholas Chapel is the only surviving part of Chaussin’s original church and is now used as a sacristy. The historic settlement of Chaussin included an artificially constructed motte surrounded by its own ditches, with a fortified castle built on it. In Chaussin, the medieval motte and part of the surrounding ditches are still visible; the castle itself has not survived. Chaussin also has a cemetery dating from the 5th to the 7th century that is exceptional for the region.

Cycling and Regional Specialities
A greenway runs through Chaussin, and Chaussin is one of the possible access points to the Voie de la Bresse Jurassienne. This easy cycling route is 49.2 kilometres long, follows the route of a former railway line, and runs between the Finage plain and the Bresse ponds. The 70-kilometre cycling route Boucle 3: Tour de la plaine jurassienne runs through the Bresse jurassienne and the grain-growing plain of Finage, which are separated by the Doubs. In Chaussin, it recommends stopping at Moulin Taron to discover Gaudes. Moulin Taron produces traditional and organic Gaudes from roasted cornmeal; the cornmeal is roasted over a wood fire and ground on stone. According to its own statement, Moulin Taron is the last mill in France to produce traditionally made Gaudes. Moulin Taron’s shop in Chaussin is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Guided tours are available by appointment for 3 euros per person.
