Water

History and culture

The Château de la Tour-du-Meix was built from the 12th century onwards and remodelled by the abbots of Saint-Claude. The fortress of the Château de la Tour-du-Meix controlled the Pyle gorge, which formed one of the entrances to the abbots’ extensive domain in the Haut-Jura.

The Église Saint-Christophe is one of the oldest religious buildings in the Jura. The Église Saint-Christophe contains the carved, painted and polychrome wooden statues known as “statues: Vierge et saint Jean”; they were entered in the register of movable cultural heritage on 9 December 1996.

Hiking trails and route

There is a car park for the “Les Falaises du Surchauffant” hiking trail at the Surchauffant campsite in La Tour-du-Meix. The 12 km-long “Les Falaises du Surchauffant” hiking trail passes the ruins of the Château de la Tour-du-Meix.

The 150 km-long, signposted Route des Lacs leads to the listed church of La Tour-du-Meix and recommends stops at Port du Meix and Surchauffant Beach.
