Champagnole: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nature

The banks of the Ain river offer visitors in Champagnole opportunities for walks. The Parc de Belle-Frise also invites visitors to enjoy walks in Champagnole. The Base de loisirs de la Roche is located on the banks of the Ain and offers activities such as canoeing and kayaking, hiking, orienteering, mountain biking and fishing.

Activities

The Pumptrack de Champagnole is a designated off-road course with waves and curves on a paved surface for various wheeled sports. Visitors can ride mountain bikes, BMX bikes, skateboards, scooters, roller skates and balance bikes there. The course has three tracks: a green one for beginners, a blue one for intermediate riders and a red one for advanced riders.

For cyclists, the Voie PLM offers several signposted routes. The Voie PLM Doucier–Champagnole is a 20.5-kilometre, very easy cycling route. The Voie PLM also connects Lac de Chalain with Champagnole for cyclists. The 45.6-kilometre mountain-bike circular route “La via Chalain – 61R” starts and ends at the Maison du Tourisme in Champagnole.

Culture

Champagnole’s municipal archaeological museum has been awarded the designation “Musée de France”. It provides insights into the lives of the Gallo-Romans and Merovingians who lived on the second Jura plateau from the 1st to the 7th century. The museum offers individual, group and school tours throughout the year by prior reservation.

The Church of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte in Champagnole was commissioned in 1750 and consecrated in 1755. Its bell tower has an imperial dome in the traditional style of Franche-Comté. The painting and its frame, “Prédication de saint François Xavier”, have been listed as a protected object under heritage protection since 20 January 2022.

Local

The Champagnole market takes place every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local tradition also includes the artisan-made Élixia lemonade: it was created in 1856 by Faustin Girardet, who was originally from Champagnole, thereby establishing one of France’s oldest artisan lemonade producers. The artisan sausages from Relais du Fumé are smoked with fir and juniper.
