Souvans: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 19-kilometre-long Voie Grévy runs through Souvans between Dole and Mont-sous-Vaudrey. Its asphalt surface is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and pushchairs. The route is reserved exclusively for non-motorised traffic, except for authorised users. It can be used with electric bicycles and conventional bicycles. In Dole, it provides an easy connection to the EuroVelo 6.

Nature

The municipality of Souvans lies on the left bank of the Loue, where the Cuisance flows into the Loue. Between the last houses of Souvans and Mont-sous-Vaudrey, the plateau forms a steep escarpment more than 100 metres high.

Culture and History

The Saint Martin church in Souvans, dedicated to Saint Martin, consists of a portal, a nave, a bell tower above a baptistery, a side chapel and a sacristy. The lower part of the bell tower and the baptistery are decorated with grotesquely carved figures and animal gargoyles from 13th-century sculpture. In front of the church stands a Gothic stone cross depicting Christ on one side and the Virgin Mary on the other.

In Souvans, there are Roman remains of castles and fortifications that served to protect the Loue basin. The plateau of Château Saillard is strewn with numerous brick fragments with moulded edges. The accessible sides of Château Saillard are surrounded by a wide, deep moat; the inner slope is reinforced by a substantial earth rampart.
