Saint-Amour: Holiday apartment between Jura slopes and history

The historic townscape of Saint-Amour includes tracery windows, sculpted and moulded gables, statuettes and niches dating from the 16th to the 19th century. These details span several centuries and give the townscape a clearly recognizable historic character.

The 19th-century apothecary is fully preserved and classified as a historic monument. Its furnishings make it an independent part of the town's history.

The apothecary in Saint-Amour contains more than 300 vessels from the 16th century. This preserved space therefore brings together different historical periods and an unusually extensive collection.

History

The Prisons Royales were built between 1730 and 1741. The complex includes a courtroom, the prison guard's apartment, a chapel, prison rooms and dungeons.

At the Prisons Royales, a visit leads through the corridors and up the stairs to the dungeons, conveying the history of the 18th-century smugglers. The building and the tour route connect the rooms of the complex with a specific chapter of the town's history.

The Tour Guillaume became the study of Guillaume de Saint-Amour in the 12th century. The tower complements the later historic buildings with a testimony from the Middle Ages.

The parish church of Saint-Amour has a 48-metre-high bell tower in the Comtois style. Inside the church, a reliquary preserves the relics of Saint Amator (Saint-Amour).

Activities
