Orientation

The Circuit du Chat Perché is a signposted circular walk of approximately 4 kilometres through Dole city centre. It covers eight centuries of Dole’s history and includes notable buildings, important streets, squares and decorations in the city centre. At the same time, the walk enables pedestrians to explore the city’s cultural heritage. A map with brief explanations of the Circuit du Chat Perché is available in foreign-language editions from the Tourist Office for €1.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment for their stay in Dole can include this in their personal travel plans.

Culture and history

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole was founded in 1821 and is located in the Pavillon des Officiers in the city centre. Its extensive collections include archaeology as well as old, modern and contemporary art. The museum also hosts two temporary exhibitions each year, showcasing the diversity of French and international artistic work.

The Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dole was built in the 16th century after the looting under Louis XI. Its portal bell tower is 73 metres high. The church houses a large organ with 3,500 pipes, built by the German Riepp, which is one of the very rare 18th-century examples in France.

The Collège St Jérôme et chapelle de la Visitation was founded at the end of the 15th century by Antoine Roche, a Benedictine from Franche-Comté and the prior of Cluny. It served to accommodate and care for members of religious orders attending courses at the University of Dole. The Collège is one of only three Cluniac colleges in France.

On the banks of the Canal des Tanneurs stands the Maison natale de Pasteur, which has been a museum since 1923. It presents family memorabilia, Pasteur’s important discoveries, the Institut Pasteur and his father’s tannery.
