Culture and History

The Église de l’Assomption in Censeau was built in 1749 and is part of the religious heritage. Its altar features a triptych created by Jean Poyer between 1500 and 1502. The three panels of this triptych have been listed as historical monuments since 1930.

Jean Poyer’s triptych is considered one of the major works of French painting. During the French Revolution, it was divided up and sold to the state. It was subsequently reconstructed and restored, and exhibited at the Musée du Louvre for several months. It then returned to Censeau; however, the central panel present today is not the original.
