Nature
At the Saut de la Saisse, the Ain River once plunged approximately 15 metres before the Vouglans reservoir was filled. The former waterfall has largely disappeared since the reservoir was filled. In winter, the Saut de la Saisse may become partially or fully visible again when the reservoir level is lowered to generate electricity.
The Marmites de la Rivière d'Ain are erosion-created formations in the limestone riverbed of the Ain between Pont-de-Poitte and Patornay.
The Belvédère sous les côtes offers views of Lac de Vouglans and the surrounding landscape. The viewpoint was renovated and landscaped with the participation of the Conservatoire du littoral.
Water and Trails
The Port de la Saisse has a free slipway for launching boats. It is used mainly by anglers, as well as recreational boaters and other water sports enthusiasts.
The GRP Tour du lac de Vouglans is an 85.5-kilometre, four-day hiking route. In Pont-de-Poitte, access is via the road to the Port de la Saisse; the designated car park is located there.
Culture and History
The church of Pont-de-Poitte is dedicated to Saint Brictius and Saint Vincent.
In the hamlet of Poitte in Pont-de-Poitte, there is a renovated church that was deconsecrated in the 12th century and is now used as a residence. The hamlet also has a stone washhouse from the 20th century with a steep roof covered with small tiles.
The Forges de la Saisse in Pont-de-Poitte are listed as Jura industrial heritage and are considered both a metallurgical plant and a hydroelectric power station. The Saut de la Saisse site was associated with the Forges de la Saisse and a hydroelectric power station that operated until 1970.
