The prehistoric pile dwellings of Clairvaux are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The oldest pile dwelling settlement in Clairvaux dates back to 3900 BC; 17 pile dwellings were counted in the water-saturated sediment of the Grand Lac de Clairvaux.
Culture and History
Historical buildings include the Tour de Clairvaux-les-Lacs, the surviving tower of a 12th-century castle. The Église Saint-Nithier de Clairvaux-les-Lacs is a Romanesque church with a bell tower topped by an imperial dome. Notre-Dame de L’Isle is also located on the castle grounds.
La Méridienne, located in the town hall courtyard, was restored and dates from the 18th or 19th century.
