Verrières-de-Joux is a mountain village in a Jura valley between Pontarlier and Neuchâtel. The village lies on a route through the Val de Travers to Switzerland and combines this geographical location with a landscape of forests, meadows, rock outcrops and hamlets.

Nature and landscape
Forests cover one third of the municipality of Verrières-de-Joux; the forested area has doubled over the course of a century. The higher-lying municipal areas include species-poor meadows, rock outcrops and hamlets, and offer views of the Chasseron and the Alps.
The rare flowers found in the countryside around Verrières-de-Joux include Koch's gentian and blue polemonium.
Hiking and trails
La Joux Verte is a moderately difficult circular hike covering 7.2 kilometres, with a walking time of around two hours and 275 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The circular route passes through meadows and forests lined with traditional farmhouses. It starts and ends at the Church of Saint-Sébastien in Verrières-de-Joux, is marked in yellow and blue, and is signposted as Route 11.
Winter and activities
The forests and woodland margins of Verrières-de-Joux can be explored by mountain bike, on foot, on skis or with snowshoes. Biathl'ON Xplore offers biathlon in Verrières-de-Joux: in winter, the activity takes place on cross-country skis or snowshoes, and when there is no snow, on foot or on roller skis. Culture and history
The origins of the Church of Saint-Sébastien in Verrières-de-Joux date back to the 18th century; it was completed in 1756. The church contains a carved and gilded wooden high altar reredos made in Les Fourgs in 1756 by Maire-Sébille and Gaillard. The pulpit also dates from the 18th century, has a polygonal pulpit basket and is painted to imitate light-coloured wood.
The village's industrial history includes the Société anonyme des Établissements Mécaniques de Verrières-de-Joux, known as the Sedis factory. It was founded in 1919; the factory was established in 1920 or 1921. Initially, it produced hand tools such as adjustable spanners; production later switched to bicycle chains.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the French-Swiss Bourbaki educational trail, family events, exhibitions, film screenings and themed tours about the War of 1870 were held on 14 and 15 June 2025 in Verrières-de-Joux, Les Verrières in Switzerland and at Château de Joux.
