La Cluse-et-Mijoux: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Château de Joux is a memorial site associated with the imprisonment and death of Toussaint Louverture. The site can be explored as part of a guided tour or independently via a discovery trail. Since 2004, Château de Joux has been the first stop on the Route des abolitions de l’esclavage in eastern France. It was designated a Monument historique by decree of 18 July 1996.
Culture
The religious buildings also tell the story of the area. Construction of the Church of Saint-Pierre de la Cluse began in 1698 and was completed 36 years later. Its carved, polychrome and gilded wooden furnishings, along with the associated statues, are particularly noteworthy. Notre-Dame de Montpetôt Chapel was founded in 1626, while Mijoux Chapel dates from 1705 and features an 18th-century altarpiece.
Saint-Léger Chapel has a distinctive roof reminiscent of an imperial roof and is considered to be probably the oldest of the local oratories. Fort Malher was built between 1843 and 1851.

Nature
A ZNIEFF-I zone encompasses the Plateau du Gérot and the promontory of Château de Joux. In addition, a Natura 2000 Special Area of Conservation protects the Château de Joux site as well as the surrounding slopes, rocks and rocky outcrops.
Bords du Doubs à la Cluse comprises wetlands in the valleys on either side of Château de Joux. Dry grasslands and ravine forests are found on the surrounding rocks and slopes of this area. The Point de Vue du Fer à Cheval offers a view of the Doubs Valley.
Trails
Several long-distance trails pass through La Cluse-et-Mijoux: the GR5, the Sentier Pédestre de l’Absinthe and the Grande Traversée du Jura à pied. The Grande Traversée du Jura Cyclo also passes through the area.
The moderately difficult PR circular hike “La Cluse et le Château de Joux” is 11.6 km long and takes around three hours. At Fort Malher, the Sentier Pédestre de l’Absinthe follows a short out-and-back route from the drivable road to a viewpoint.
