Culture and history
The Calvary is one of the few surviving examples from the 16th century and bears witness to popular religious beliefs connected with agriculture. According to oral tradition, it was erected in the 16th century. The entire Calvary was protected as a historic monument by decree of 8 January 1936.
The chapel in Lavans-Vuillafans was built in 1865 and was never used for services. Nearby, in La Barêche, is the Church of Saint-Hippolyte-les-Durnes. It was approved in 1180 for seven surrounding villages, including Lavans-Vuillafans, and rebuilt in 1774.
At the Fête des Chevreaux, children in particular could try milking goats and feeding the kids with a bottle.

Nature and landscape
The Vallées de la Loue et du Lison Natura 2000 site covers 76 municipalities, including Lavans-Vuillafans. The Plateau de la Barêche and the municipal areas of Lavans-Vuillafans and Échevannes form the upper level of the first plateaus of the Jura Massif. The topography is flat, the views are broad and open, the elevations are generally around 600 metres and rise to as much as 700 metres towards the north and east.
The hedgerow landscape of Lavans-Vuillafans is part of a priority zone for the red-backed shrike.
Cuisine
Ferme du Rondeau sells its own cheese, meat, flour and ready-made meals directly from its farm shop. The present-day cheese dairy in Lavans-Vuillafans is still located in the same premises as in 1929. In 1851, there were two cheese dairies in Lavans-Vuillafans.
Cycling
The Loue Loue Land gravel loop passes through Lavans-Vuillafans. The route has no official waymarking. It starts and ends in Besançon and can be explored in one long day with an appropriate level of fitness or over two to three days.
