Montenois: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Montenois is located on a plateau spur facing east, rising to an altitude of 400 metres. For defensive reasons, the village was established in its present location on the edge of the plateau.

Nature

Access to the 22-hectare site at the Evad’Parc location in Montenois is free of charge and unrestricted. Evad’Parc offers swingolf as an outdoor activity, footgolf on a specially designed outdoor course, disc golf with flying discs and metal baskets, and Greenfoot, a form of mini-golf played with a football.

Rescued llamas, a wallaby, alpacas, peacocks, sheep, goats and domestic poultry live on the site. Visitors may encounter the animals cared for there while walking in nature.

Acroland Montenois has ten high ropes courses and an 18-hole mini-golf course, and also includes an educational trail.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint George stands at the top of a steep slope and was built in the 18th century. A fountain washhouse was built near Rue d’Arcey in 1855. The mairie-school of Montenois was built in 1866–1867 by the architect Vertet.

A dairy cooperative was founded in Montenois on 3 April 1891 and remained in operation until the Second World War. The Montenois war memorial, erected in 1922, lists 24 victims of the fighting.

The En Corcelles necropolis appears to have been used in the second half of the 7th century by a Germanic, probably Alamannic, population. Excavations at the En Corcelles archaeological site in Montenois uncovered around thirty Early Medieval graves near a spring. Finds from the En Corcelles necropolis included a scramasax, buckles, necklace beads and belt plates.

At the En Say site, the victims of Montenois were shot individually.

Paths

The Borne des Quatre Fins is a boundary stone at the meeting point of the municipalities of Beutal, Longevelle-sur-le-Doubs, Lougres and Montenois. It has a picnic area and can be reached via a passable track, which is followed using markings in the form of stylised boundary stones.

The circular walk at the Borne des Quatre Fins is marked; the extension to the spring is not marked.
