Things to Do

Bart has several paved greenways and cycle paths intended for walkers and cyclists. They run along the Rupt and Allan waterways and through the forest of Mont Bart. The cycle network also includes EuroVélo6, which connects the Atlantic with the Black Sea. It also includes the Circuit cyclo touristique n°3, a 17 km loop that passes through Montbéliard, among other places.

Nature

The forests of Bart cover just under 100 hectares and consist predominantly of beech trees, along with some sessile oaks and a few conifers. Numerous rare plants can be found in the forests, including Turk's cap lilies. Around three quarters of Bart's forests lie around Mont-Bart, are criss-crossed by forest paths, and the GR5 passes by the fort.

Culture and History

Fort du Mont-Bart was built from 1874 to 1877 as part of a national defensive chain. It is located within the territory of the municipalities of Bavans and Bart.

The Cité ouvrière Japy Frères et Cie workers' housing estate was built between 1920 and 1928 by the company Japy Frères et Cie, presumably to accommodate the factory's Czech workers at La Roche.

Public visits to Fort du Mont-Bart were scheduled to begin in April, either independently or with a guide-conférencier.
